We (Jim and Karen) moved from Littleton, Colorado to Houston, Texas in March, 2001. While living in Colorado, we had a semi-custom home built by D.R. Horton in a gated section of the Riata Ranch community in northwest Houston.
Our floor plan is D.R. Horton's 3,373 sq. ft. Cawyer. It has a detached, oversized 3-car garage with workspace and a floored-in attic storage space with stairway access and lighting. (We also added a 14' x 22' covered patio that is not shown in these pre-move-in construction photos.)
This website has photos of the construction of our home. Because we publicly posted weekly photos of the construction while our home was being built, the builder paid exceptional attention to details. It's now over seven years since our home was built and it is still solid with no problems! Every door and window operates smoothly. All utilities & features are as good as new.
During construction, we had Cat-5 star-configured Ethernet and telephone ports, and video cables run to many outlets throughout our home, terminating in a central control closet. We had multiple empty tubes installed for pulling new cables if desired. The family room and master bedroom are also wired for surround sound, and extra TV outlets for flexibility in placing A/V equipment. Our home has a monitored alarm system, and includes glass-breakage detectors for added security.
Most of the photos on this website were taken by Blake Tillack of National Property Inspections.
Someday we will build our retirement home in Carriage Park in Western North Carolina. We own a vacant lot in that community. Carriage Park has a very active homeowner's association with many items of interest distributed by e-mail only to owners.
